After a wintry start and fifteen minutes of hard play, Castle Cary opened the scoring with an intercept by James Hill who then ran in the try from 65 metres out — with Frome in hot pursuit. Frome responded immediately when they managed to exploit a mistake in Cary's defence to get five points on the board. This mistake seemed to fire up Cary, whose forward pack began to dominate the game through their set pieces. These were aided by the veteran Sam Loxton's continual contributions in calming the back line and securing the ball. One of the more notable tries of the game came from a defensive scrum in Frome's half with Martin White, the Cary scrum-half, pressuring his opposite number into a costly mistake — giving Martin the opportunity to gather the ball and score. by James Travers
