Castle Cary fancied their chances against top of the table Old Sulians. Cary had prepared well during the week and went out on Saturday looking for the upset of the season. Yet the first half an hour of play was purely defensive for Cary, as Old Sulians pressured the try-line. Some excellent defending kept the visitors out, yet Cary slipped up by gifting an overlap to the Sulians who ran in an unopposed try. This seemed to lift Cary as they came back stronger — gaining all the possession and territory — yet they could not convert this into points. The game continued in this fashion for most of the second half. Notable performances came from prop Jerry Davies and hooker Tom Hemsworth, who put the yards in throughout the game. Cary never gave in, but tired legs and battered bodies gave Old Sulians a sniff at the two late tries. Although the team lost, Cary coach Jon Thomas was pleased with the 'passionate and stirring' performance. by James Travers
