Cary 2nd were expecting a hard game and that is exactly what they got. Things did not go as planned from the start, as the game was moved from Tor's grounds to the Stroud College Pitch. This was in a poor state due to the wet weather, and made conditions difficult under foot.

Tor got off to a flying start, having won the toss and elected to play down the slope. The first try was controversial: Cary claimed that Tor did not ground the ball. However, Tor's second try came from a piece of well-played forwards rugby with the home team using a rolling maul to draw in the Cary defence. At the right moment, a player peeled off the back and found a gap in the line to score just to the right of Cary's posts.

The second half began with Tor making a break down Cary's right flank which was stopped by captain Steve Armson. He adopted the unusual method of using his nose as a buffer. Although it achieved the desired effect, both players had to sit out the rest of the game due to injury.

Cary continued to increase the pressure and only conceded one try in this period of play. This seemed to frustrate Tor, who in turn gave away several penalties. Cary's try came in the last minutes when prop Neville Brook intercepted a pass in midfield to run in under the posts for a try, which was converted by Big Dave Wilson.
