Many billed this to be a close game between Cary and a local side, North Dorset. This proved to be the case for three quarters of the match. Dorset had the 'hill' in the opening half and piled the pressure on Cary for a good half-hour. The home side held strong, yet after being pinned on their try-line for a long period, Dorset managed to go over for the only try of the first half. This encouraged Cary in the second period, as the roles were reversed. Cary used the advantage of the hill and kicked themselves into a good attacking position. Once in the visitors' 22, Cary produced quick hands to put Paul Hills in for an easy try in the corner. Feeling in control, Cary uncharacteristically let their guard down to allow the Dorset full-backs to kick and run the visitors into excellent scoring opportunities. Dorset visited Cary's 22 on a handful of occasions, which led to three tries and two conversions in the closing quarter of the match. by James Travers
