North Dorset fielded an interesting mix of experience in their pack, with a very fit and young three-quarters. The level of fitness within the backs became evident in the first 15 minutes of play. The difficulty of the task ahead was thrown into sharp focus when North Dorset's number 10 slotted a perfect drop goal from beyond Cary's 22. With our drive and persistence in the first half, Cary's number 5, Simon Hunt — in only his fourth game of rugby — scored a true forward's try near the posts. The ball came off the back of the ruck five meters from North Dorset's try-line, which he then gathered. Using the momentum, he carried four of North Dorset's players over the line to score. This try was converted by George Dampier. While North Dorset's tries resulted from their agile three-quarters, Cary's second try came in the dying minutes of the game. With a penalty in the opposition's 22, Cary's scrum-half passed the ball to number 4, James Travers, who then drove over the line to beat three of North Dorset's forwards. Steve Armson (captain) commented after the game, "It was a very good and fast game, but Cary kept fighting till the final whistle." by James Travers
