An unscheduled fixture saw Cary 2nd XV travelling away to Frome for the third time this season. Both teams managed to field a full side for this match and as always the game was played in very good spirit.

Frome opened the scoring after around ten minutes with a converted try and settled into playing a fairly open game. Cary's three-quarters line was stretched again and the inexperience showed as Frome went over for another couple of tries.

Around three-quarters of the way through the first half, Cary started to play some good rugby. Stringing together a series of moves between the forwards and backs saw Frome under pressure but Cary were unable to capitalise on this and ended the half 21 points down.

Injury forced two of the Cary players to retire, but they were helped by a couple of willing volunteers from the Frome side to take their places. Cary were awarded a penalty soon after kick-off and just outside Frome's 22. With plenty of pressure on his shoulders it was down to fly-half Andy Palmer to remove the "0". He did not succumb and slotted the penalty between the uprights. This lifted spirits on the Cary side but did not stop Frome running over another three tries for a final score of 38–3 to the hosts.

Credit must be given to the following players:

  • Ed Culpin, the youngest member of the side playing at inside centre: for some great closing down, tackling and marshalling of the Cary back line.
  • Shane Stone, playing out on the wing: once again great tackling was performed by Shane and awareness in both defence and attack.
  • Tim Fahquar, playing on the flank for this game: once again excellent awareness and all round game playing.
  • Man of the Match — Jim. Playing on the flank, this guy is very hardworking and just seems to be everywhere.
  • Golden Gloves — Martin "Cheesy" Harrison. Playing at full back, we will teach him to catch a high ball by the end of the season.

Jon Belcher commented, "Once again thanks to all those who turned out today lets keep those young guys coming through. Special thanks again to Andy Palmer for captaining the side and keeping us away from the '0'."
