Cary opened brightly, demonstrating strong running and support play as good as we've seen this year. Cary secured an early lead after Nathan Evans and Gareth Watts gained tries, with the latter being the culminated effort of a 90-metre move involving eight passes. Ben Snook added a conversion to leave the scores at 0–12. Wiveliscombe replied with a rumbling maul try from a 5-metre line-out and a penalty, to conclude the first half with the score at 8–12. The second half was equally contested, with Cary defending robustly. Following good forward pressure, Snook kicked a penalty to increase Cary's lead which resulted in Wiveliscombe renewing their efforts and finding themselves camped on Cary's line for a full five minutes before eventually scoring. This was converted to leave the scores level at 15–15. In the closing minutes, Ben Snook had a chance to take additional points with a long range penalty but dragged it wide so the game was drawn, a fair result on the day. The visitors were pleased with the performance of the entire squad, particularly Shane Stone, who made a pleasing debut, and Seb Dyer who was awarded Man of the Match.
