UNDER 7s
Played in appalling conditions, both teams were much improved since their first meeting at the beginning of the season. Scott Suri, who has just joined the squad, was awarded Man of the Match.
UNDER 8s
In abysmal conditions, the very well drilled Cheddar matched Cary try for try until just before half time, when a Cary knock-on gave Cheddar the impetus and a slender lead before the whistle. The second half saw Cary re-group and assert themselves to hold on for a win in very difficult circumstances. Castle Cary Man of the Match: Jonathan Ellis.
UNDER 10s
Torrential rain didn't dampen the spirits of either team, playing with real passion and a desire to win. Having the home advantage, Cary played with conviction to overpower Cheddar in the back line. However, Cheddar's forwards held their own to turn over ball in the scrums and in loose play. Cary had to adjust their game, which they did very well, and allowed the backs to run in five unanswered tries.
Man of the Match: Ross Bowers.
Try scorers: George Shepherd, Charles Proud, Robbie Thurgood, Ross Bowers (2).
UNDER 11s
This game was contested under very wet and windy conditions. Despite this, both sides played some very good rugby all the way to the final whistle. Cheddar arrived with nine players but were bolstered by two Cary players and the sides stayed at 11-a-side for the match. Throughout the match both sides displayed 100% commitment, playing a surprisingly fluid style of rugby. With plenty of close quarter passing, the ball was kept alive for large sections on the match. That said, Cary proved to be the stronger team and were soon on the score board running in 37–0 by half time.
The second half saw more of the same outstanding dedication from both sides but Cary continued to build on their first half performance by scoring steadily. Cary's try scorers were Cameron Aptakre-Davis (2), Mac Baylis (1), Jack Bloss (1), Max Nott-Bower (2), James Voysey (1), Philip Wake (2) and Luke Travers (2). Joey Lester-Hinchliffe converted 4 of his 6 conversion attempts. Cheddar kept fighting hard and were eventually rewarded with an unconverted try by Will Chandler (CCRFC).
There were several deserving candidates for Cary Man of the Match with Mac Baylis winning the accolade for his fine ball distribution and hard tackling.
STOCKWOOD v CCRFC (U15)
Castle Cary played at Stockwood and played through horrendous wind and rain. The sides were evenly matched. Chris Wake opened the scoring for Cary with a quickly taken penalty near the Stockwood try line, and he went on to convert the try. Cary continued the pressure: another speedy penalty by George Paris with quick hands from the Cary forwards, the ball popped up to Chris Wake who scored his second try, which Devon Waine converted. Stockwood continued to play well but Cary stopped them scoring. The half-time score was 14–0 to Cary.
Early in the second half, Stockwood were awarded a penalty and kicked for a convincing 3 points. Although the conditions were bad, the game was played in a very good spirit. All the Cary players did a good job and the Man of the Match was Chris Wake.
