A tough game for Castle Cary, who were looking to win after a defeat earlier in the season. From the kick-off, the spectators knew they were in for a memorable game. Both sides started the game giving their all, looking for the gaps in each other's back line. Mid-way through the first half, Bath Saracens found a chink in Cary's defence and exploited it to open the scoring. This only seemed to encourage Cary to push the Saracens' backs harder, but despite some near breakthroughs they were unable to score. Cary came back in the second half with drive and determination to win. This became evident at one stage with four injured players littered across the field — the referee stopped play to allow them treatment. Cary continued to try to puncture the Saracens' back line with some beautiful ball play but were still unable to find the vital weakness. The breakthrough for Cary came from a lineout in Bath Saracens' 22, with the ball being caught and the home pack driving for the line with Pete Richardson scoring the first of his two tries. With this under their belts, Cary picked up the tempo and five minutes later had an exact replay of the first try, but this time on the opposite side of the pitch. However, this game was full of twists and turns with the home side being dealt a tough hand by fate. This led to a long period of injury time being played — and it was in the dying seconds when Bath Saracens equalised from a scrum in Cary's 22, ending a truly exciting game. by James Travers
