A hard game in a biting northerly wind, with numerous scrums, rucks and mauls. In the first half, Crewkerne pushed hard for the Cary line and for a good five minutes Cary defended it with only two metres to spare. This resulted in Crewkerne giving away numerous penalties in their frustration at being unable to break Cary's resolve. At the half time whistle, Cary lost one player due to injury and pulled on our only substitute. However, this period of play proved too much for us. We sustained two more injuries and had to borrow two Crewkerne subs (luckily they had brought 26 players). In the final twenty minutes, the strength of the opposition's superior numbers showed as they ran in one try after another. Captain Steve Armson commented after the game, "I am pleased with how we played and the stout defence we maintained: if we had not suffered the injuries, things might have been different. I would also like to thank Crewkerne for the loan of their two players, and we look forward to the return match." by James Travers
