Castle Cary ladies hosted Wiveliscombe ladies with a kick-off immediately following the men's game, and were keen to follow the male victory with one of their own. Under the watchful eye of referee Mark Edwards, and with welcome assistance from players from Midsomer Norton and Trowbridge, Cary maintained possession in the first half, but the visitors (assisted by Ivel players) were still able to run in two tries. As weather conditions deteriorated, there were knock-ons from both teams and Cary's inside centre Lizzie Longman and full-back SophieVarndell were lost to injury. However, with good rucking and mauling, Cary maintained possession and Jackie Bracher secured Cary's first try. After the break, Cary had the opportunity to run some good lines and despite several attempts to touch down being prevented by Wiveliscombe holding up, Cary were eventually rewarded with a try from Tara Taylor, which she also converted. With the points equal, and both sides demonstrating strength, speed and determination, Cary's Sarah White was able to exploit a quick penalty to take the scores to 17–12 in the hosts' favour. |
