Going to Crewkerne with a slightly weakened side in the pack, Cary looked to use their settled back line to exploit the slow pace of the Crewkerne backs. Starting the game well, Cary produced some good expansive rugby with good running lines from Ben Snook and Brendan Hickman, creating space for an early try from Hickman, who subsequently went on to secure a hat trick. This promising start set the tone for the rest of the first half with the backs running in tries at will, demonstrating confidence and cohesion and even attacking from their own 22. The second half saw a slightly different game with Cary coming off the boil to let Crewkerne back in the game. The forwards lacked conviction in the second half and were forced off their own ball several times, with Crewkerne demonstrating admirable playing spirit. Despite this the visitors managed not to concede any points against them, thus concluding their first game of the new year in a positive manner. Man of the Match was awarded to Robbie Creech. |
