On the evening before the league game against Wellington was due to place, the visitors cried off but a flurry of phone calls made by James Atkins, Dave Bifulco and Alan Biddiscombe ensured that sufficient numbers were raised for a friendly match, drawing from of a mixture of Cary and Evercreech players, who were mixed up in an attempt to make the two teams even. Despite Cary starting two players short, young Devon Waine turned up to score four tries. This set the tone for the rest of the game, which Cary managed to run away with, even though Jerry Davis came off with an injury and James Atkins was sent off for 'misconduct'. There was some dubious refereeing from Pete Richardson, who ended up handing over to James Atkins for the final ten minutes. A fun day was had by all, with thanks to those who were willing to play at such short notice. Man of the Match was Peter Rose by Rosie Meek
