Crewkerne arrived at the Castle Cary ground short of a full side, so Cary's Steve Milligan and Nathan Evans stepped in to balance the numbers. Cary's captain, Russell Churchouse, ensured that the hosts were the first to put points on the board, securing a try in the opening minutes of play. However, Crewkerne were quick to respond after successfully intercepting a Cary ball and running the length of the pitch for a touchdown, which was subsequently converted. Cary then regained control of the game and soon secured a penalty kick, with further points as John Clay took advantage of a quick penalty to make another try, although the conversion was blocked by a Crewkerne player. A subsequent try was achieved as Ben Snook directed a kick to Gareth Watts who was well positioned near to the try line, leaving the half-time score at 18–7. The second half saw Cary maintain their domination through effective line-outs, strong rucking and an exploitation of the pace and quick hands of the backs. Further tries were secured as Churchouse passed to Freddie Loxton just before the try-line, and Matt Knight was able to out-pace several Crewkerne backs as he travelled the length of the pitch for a try, which was converted by John Clay. After spending a considerable amount of time regaining possession near to the try line, Cary were eventually rewarded with a try, followed swiftly with a well-worked move by Peter Rose, and further tries from Jim Coulter, Jay Berry and Guy Clothier (2). Freddie Loxton ran in his second touchdown, converted by Ben Snook, and the closing minutes of play saw a final try by forward Tommy Hemsworth, with a subsequent conversion from Snook. by Rosie Meek
