Not the start that the hosts expected to the season, losing to a very strong Burnham 'seconds' team, despite the squad putting in a strong performance. Burnham's ex-Tongan fly-half controlled the game well, seeing and creating spaces when opportunities arose. Good defensive work from Castle Cary kept the score to a minimum, although a few chances were spoilt through poor hands, and the second half saw uncontested scrums due to the injury of the entire front row. Man of the Match was awarded to Peter Rose for a particularly good game on the wing, while the performances of Jay Berry and Freddie Loxton (playing his first game at open-side flanker) were also applauded. Cary weren't too disheartened by the score, and the coaching team used the opening game of the season to identify areas for improvement in continuing their campaign for a spot at the top of the league.
