Castle Cary travelled up to Midsomer Norton with eleven players, lending two to the hosts in order to balance the numbers. Although this was the first game of the season for Cary, they proved to be the fitter team, and coped well with the challenge of playing nine on a full pitch. With uncontested scrums, Cary made full use of the pace of their backs to run through the Norton defence, securing an early try from Laura Heatley. This was followed with a hat trick from newcomer Lizzie Longman and two consecutive tries from Jess Harrison, one of which she successfully converted. Coach James Atkins was extremely pleased with the result and praised the performance of the entire squad. Women of the Match were Lizzie Longman for her outstanding debut performance, Rosie Meek for her tackling abilities, and fly-half Jess Harrison.
