A good start saw Cary push Taunton into their own half for the first ten minutes of play, but Cary then relaxed thinking the game would be easier than it was. This gave Taunton the opportunity to come back hard and fast with some good running lines from their three-quarters. Up front was very evenly contested, both pushing each other back at the set piece, and with line-outs fairly contested. Two intercepts from Taunton put them in front before the break. After the break, the visitors claimed their only try (from Nathan Evans) and a few forced changes from Cary as Guy Clothier went off with a broken thumb and John Clay left the field with concussion. The changes saw Ben Snook being moved from outside-centre to scrum-half, Jock Waterall in the front row, and James Atkins at second row. The final twenty minutes saw Cary performing as well as they had as the start of the match, but Taunton had already notched up enough points for a convincing win. Despite this, the Cary coaches were pleased with the performance, particularly from those playing out of position, such as Jules Stambe at inside centre and Ben Snook at scrum half.
