Within ten minutes the visitors had secured points with a well-worked try from Gareth Watts, who was fed the ball by Freddie Loxton. The pace of the game remained fast throughout the match, causing problems for the referee, who struggled to keep up. However, instead of Cary fully utilising their backs, the visitors let Weston dictate the game, using their forwards to maul vigorously and secure a try. Rick Gates and Jamie Smith were forced off at half-time due to injury, with club stalwart John Roper stepping in and demonstrating dynamic jumping at the line-out. The second half saw uncontested scrums and the hosts were able to score through quick hands in the backs and missed chances by Cary — who on several occasions got the ball out wide but either knocked it on or were bundled into touch before reaching their try-line. Nick Gibbons secured another try for Cary in the closing minutes, with Ben Snook adding further points with a penalty kick. by Rosie Meek
