Cary started well with an early try created by fly-half Paul Hills. A well placed kick and a penetrating run resulted in a deserved try.

This opening score kick-started Old Eds into gear, and with increased possession they soon put two tries over the Cary line, one of which they converted.

Cary responded by stepping up the pressure and were rewarded with a try from a driving maul, with Cary's no.8, Tony Reynolds, putting the ball over the line to bring the visitors within a few points of retaking the lead.

However a lack of discipline led to Cary giving away a penalty that Old Eds turned into points. Cary replied with another try, scored by Gaz Reynolds playing his debut game for the 1st team.

Old Eds scored one more try to take the game. Cary's captain, Jimmer Atkins, commented, 'A close game with very little between the two teams, and Cary playing well despite the injuries.'
