Having let Ivel in for a soft try in the opening minutes, Cary responded by taking control of the scrum. The young Cary scrum-half, Dan Jefferies, picked up the ball from the back of the scrum in the Ivel 22 and forced himself over the try-line to score his first ever for the club. Both teams worked hard in the blistering heat. Cary's determination paid dividends in the dying minutes of the game with a well worked move from the three-quarters line, which Neil Ashton finished off under the posts for a well-earned try. Steve Armson (captain) said, 'I was very pleased with all the players, young and old: a great effort which puts us in good stead for the rest of the season.' |
